Tamayo Perry, known for his role in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," has tragically passed away following a shark attack in Hawaii. Perry, who also starred in "Blue Crush" and "Hawaii Five-0," was surfing at Malaekahana Beach on Oahu when the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon.

Local emergency services received a call at 1 pm reporting a person fatally injured by a shark. They used a jetski to retrieve Perry’s body from the ocean. Honolulu Ocean Safety acting chief Kurt Lager spoke at a press conference, describing Perry as a lifeguard and professional surfer who was well-loved by everyone. "Tamayo’s personality was infectious, and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more," Lager said. "Our condolences go out to Tamayo’s family."

Perry played one of the buccaneers in the fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" film, which starred Penélope Cruz and Johnny Depp. He was also a stunt performer in the Owen Wilson surfing movie "The Big Bounce," based on Elmore Leonard’s novel.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi called Perry’s death a "tragic loss," praising him as a legendary waterman and a respected member of the community.
